Part of The Remarkable Restaurants Group, The George and Dragon re-opened its door in 2006 It was renovated in conjunction with The English Heritage and its well thought out and designed décor has won the title of “The Best Renovated Pub of 2007”. With over three hundred years history, the George and Dragon is famed for having had Dick Turpin drop in for a pint or two.
The front bar area is more traditional and cavernous and with the original dark wood panelling, original 17th century fire place and it features, behind the bar, a list of landlords dating back to 1759. The back dinning room is bright and airy, has double height ceiling, large windows and doors, cast iron fire places has, as a centre piece, two tall female art nouveau statues.
The George and Dragon also has a pleasant court yard, a variety of board games and a duke box with an “interesting selection”. CDs include artists such as Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, Prince and many more.
